Public health impact assessment
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009660
A quantitative extension of risk assessment in which the estimated risk of an exposure is applied to a defined population of known size to predict how many people will be affected. The result is stated as an expected number of cases, not as an individual risk. For example, a lifetime cancer risk of one in a million applied to a city of two million people predicts about two extra cases over a lifetime.
