Quickening
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013462
The first maternal perception of fetal movement, felt as a light fluttering or tapping low in the abdomen. It is reported at roughly 18 to 25 weeks of gestation in a first pregnancy and about 16 to 22 weeks in later ones. Because it rests on the mother's own perception, it is a subjective sign and does not establish fetal viability, which is conventionally placed at around 22 to 24 weeks.
