Radioactive fallout

Radioactive particles that are carried into the atmosphere following a nuclear explosion or reactor accident and subsequently fall back to Earth. These particles can contaminate land, water, and food supplies, posing a long-term radiation hazard. The composition and distribution depend on meteorological conditions and the nature of the event.
