Mycotoxin

A toxic secondary metabolite produced by fungi, particularly molds, that can contaminate food and feed. These compounds can cause a range of adverse health effects in humans and animals, from acute poisoning to long-term effects like cancer. Aflatoxins, produced by Aspergillus species, are a prominent example.
