Mycoplasma
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013312
A genus of bacteria that lack a cell wall around their cell membranes, making them resistant to many common antibiotics that target cell wall synthesis. These microorganisms are among the smallest known free-living bacteria and can cause respiratory, urogenital, and other infections in humans and animals. They are often difficult to culture in laboratory settings due to their fastidious growth requirements.
