Cephalosporins
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001802
A class of β-lactam antibiotics derived from the fungus Acremonium, characterized by a dihydrothiazine ring fused to a β-lactam ring. These compounds inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with peptidoglycan cross-linking. Cephalosporins are widely used clinically to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections.
