Cephems
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001803
Unsaturated heterocyclic compounds featuring a bicyclic structure where a four-membered β-lactam ring is fused to a six-membered dihydrothiazine ring. The defining feature is a double bond within the six-membered ring, distinguishing this class from the fully saturated cephams. This structural framework forms the core of the cephalosporin class of antibiotics, which are widely used antibacterial agents.
