Penems
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008594
A class of bicyclic organic compounds featuring a fused beta-lactam ring and a five-membered unsaturated thiazoline ring. This structure is similar to penams but includes a double bond within the five-membered sulfur-containing ring. Penems are synthetic beta-lactam antibiotics, often exhibiting broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
