A set of critically evaluated data for a specific property of a well-characterized substance, compiled and disseminated by a recognized authority. These data are considered highly reliable and are intended for use in calibrating instruments, validating methods, and comparing with new experimental results. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides numerous Standard Reference Data databases for physical and chemical properties.
