Retention
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010286
The share of atoms that stay in, or go back to, their original chemical form after undergoing nuclear decay or a nuclear reaction. For example, when a radioactive atom in a molecule decays or captures a neutron, retention is the part that remains bonded in the parent molecular structure. The rest, one minus the retention, appears in other chemical forms and is the basis of Szilard-Chalmers enrichment.
