Reverse iodine-transfer polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013500
A form of iodine-transfer polymerization in which the starting mixture holds a conventional radical initiator, for example AIBN or benzoyl peroxide, together with molecular iodine rather than a preformed alkyl iodide. Initiator radicals react with iodine to form the alkyl iodide chain-transfer agent in situ, and polymerization then proceeds by degenerative iodine transfer between growing chains and dormant iodo-terminated chains. In direct iodine-transfer polymerization the alkyl iodide is added at the start instead.
