Rheumatic fever

A severe inflammatory disease that develops as a complication of an untreated or inadequately treated streptococcal infection, such as strep throat. It can affect the heart, joints, brain, and skin, leading to long-term damage, particularly to the heart valves. The condition is diagnosed based on a set of criteria known as the modified Jones criteria.
