Rhesus factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010337
An inherited protein, specifically an antigen, found on the surface of red blood cells. Individuals who have the protein are designated as Rh-positive, while those who lack it are Rh-negative. Incompatibility between an Rh-negative mother and an Rh-positive fetus can lead to hemolytic disease of the newborn if the mother develops antibodies against the fetal blood cells.
