Erythroblastosis fetalis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004092
A severe hemolytic disease in a fetus or newborn infant, characterized by the destruction of red blood cells. This condition arises from an incompatibility between the blood types of the mother and the fetus, often involving the Rh factor. Maternal antibodies cross the placenta and attack fetal erythrocytes, leading to anemia and jaundice.
