Righting reflex
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010354
An innate reflex observed in most animals that corrects the body's orientation when it is in an abnormal position, returning it to an upright posture. This complex motor response involves the vestibular, visual, and somatosensory systems to maintain balance and stability. In neurotoxicology studies, the time taken for an animal to right itself after being placed on its back is a common endpoint for assessing nervous system impairment, particularly motor coordination and vestibular function.
