Rotaxane end-unit

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010435

A unit at the chain end of a macromolecular rotaxane, pairing the terminal group of the polymer chain with the partner it is interlocked with, either a macrocycle or a threading segment. It therefore carries the interlocked structure itself, unlike a plain end-group, which is only the chain terminus and may be a bulky stopper that keeps rings from slipping off.
