Run-off

The portion of precipitation or irrigation water that flows over the land surface, eventually reaching streams, rivers, or other bodies of water. This process can transport dissolved or suspended substances, including pollutants, from terrestrial environments into aquatic ecosystems. Surface run-off is a primary mechanism for the spread of agricultural chemicals into natural waters.
