Saprobic index

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010516

A numerical value used to assess the level of organic pollution in aquatic ecosystems based on the presence and abundance of saprobic organisms. Different species are assigned saprobic values according to their tolerance to organic pollution. A higher index value generally indicates a greater degree of organic pollution and lower water quality.
