Biotic index

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001330

A numerical value assigned to a body of water or an ecosystem to indicate its biological quality, based on the presence and abundance of specific indicator organisms. Different species are assigned scores based on their tolerance to pollution. A higher biotic index generally suggests better water quality and a healthier ecosystem.
