Biotic ligand

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001331

A specific binding site on a biological organism, such as a cell membrane or a protein, where a chemical substance can interact. This interaction can lead to a biological effect, either beneficial or harmful, depending on the nature of the ligand and the organism. The biotic ligand model (BLM) is used in ecotoxicology to predict the toxicity of metals to aquatic organisms.
