Schottky barrier
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010576
A potential energy barrier for charge carriers formed at the interface between a metal and a semiconducting polymer. This barrier results from the alignment of the metal's Fermi level with the polymer's energy bands, creating a depletion region that impedes charge injection or extraction. The barrier height is approximately the difference between the metal's work function and either the polymer's electron affinity for n-type semiconductors or ionization potential for p-type semiconductors, measured in electronvolts.
