Sesterterpenoids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010780
A class of terpenoids containing 25 carbon atoms, derived biosynthetically from five isoprene units. Their molecular structures are built from the C25 precursor geranylfarnesyl pyrophosphate. Sesterterpenoids are less abundant in nature than diterpenoids or triterpenoids but are found in fungi and marine organisms, with examples including the ophiobolins and sesterstatins.
