Tetraterpenoids

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011907

A class of terpenoids derived from eight isoprene units, resulting in compounds with 40 carbon atoms. These molecules are formed by the head-to-head coupling of two C20 geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate units. Carotenoids, such as beta-carotene and lycopene, are well-known tetraterpenoids responsible for vibrant colors in plants and animals.
