Solar flare
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010978
A sudden, intense brightening observed over the Sun's surface, representing a large energy release of up to 6 × 10^25 joules. This event ejects clouds of electrons, ions, and atoms, along with electromagnetic radiation, into space. Solar flares can significantly affect the Earth's upper atmosphere and ionosphere by increasing ionization and altering chemical composition, impacting radio communications and satellite operations.
