Photoelectrochemical cell

An electrochemical cell where at least one electrode is a semiconductor material that absorbs light to drive a chemical reaction or generate electricity. These cells convert light energy into chemical energy or electrical energy. They are used in applications such as solar fuel production and solar cells.
