Shakeoff
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010794
A process in which an atom undergoing an inner-shell ionization event simultaneously ejects an outer-shell electron due to the sudden change in the effective nuclear charge. This phenomenon results in a doubly charged ion and is observed as satellite peaks in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It is a consequence of electron correlation effects.
