X-ray satellite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012769

A weak X-ray emission line observed at an energy slightly different from a main characteristic X-ray line. These lines arise from complex atomic processes, such as multiple ionization or shake-up/shake-off phenomena, occurring simultaneously with the primary ionization event. They provide additional information about the electronic structure and chemical environment of the emitting atom.
