Specific pathogen free

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011107

Describing laboratory animals that are certified to be free from a defined list of microorganisms and parasites known to cause disease. The designation does not mean the animal is germ-free, but rather that it has been raised in a controlled barrier facility to exclude particular pathogens that could interfere with experimental results. The list of excluded pathogens is specific to the supplier and the research requirements, and animals are regularly monitored through health screening programs to maintain their status.
