Germ-free animal

An animal that has been raised and maintained in a completely sterile environment, devoid of any microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These animals are typically delivered by aseptic caesarean section and housed in isolators. They are used in scientific research to investigate the role of the microbiome in health and disease.
