Spermiogenesis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011182
The final stage of spermatogenesis, during which a round, haploid spermatid undergoes a profound morphological transformation into a mature, motile spermatozoon. This differentiation process involves the condensation of the nucleus, formation of the acrosome cap from the Golgi apparatus, development of a flagellum for motility, and the shedding of most of the cytoplasm. Spermiogenesis does not involve any cell division, only the structural maturation of the spermatid.
