Statistical segment

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011346

A hypothetical segment of a polymer chain that is long enough for its orientation to be statistically independent of the orientation of adjacent segments. This concept simplifies the analysis of polymer chain conformations and dynamics by treating the chain as a series of these independent units. The length of a statistical segment is typically greater than the length of a monomer unit.
