Stochastic effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011425
A biological effect whose probability of occurrence is a function of dose, without a threshold, and whose severity is independent of dose. These effects are typically associated with low-level exposures to agents like radiation or certain carcinogens. Cancer and heritable genetic mutations are prime examples of stochastic effects.
