Stochastic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011424

Describing a process or phenomenon that involves randomness or probability, where the outcome cannot be precisely predicted but can be described by statistical distributions. In toxicology, stochastic effects are those for which the probability of occurrence, rather than the severity, is a function of dose, with no threshold. Cancer induction is considered a stochastic effect of radiation exposure.
