Superfecundation

A situation in which two or more ova shed during a single ovulatory period are fertilized by sperm from separate acts of intercourse, possibly involving different men. When the fathers differ, the twins are said to result from heteropaternal superfecundation. The event is rare in humans and is documented more often in animals such as cats and dogs.
