Tactic macromolecule

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013637

A macromolecule whose stereochemical repeat is the same throughout, meaning that practically every configurational repeating unit is identical. Isotactic and syndiotactic macromolecules are the two common kinds, whereas an atactic macromolecule, with random configurations at its stereogenic sites, is not tactic. Tactic chains can crystallize, which is why isotactic polypropylene is a semicrystalline thermoplastic.
