Titrant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012087
A solution of a reagent of known concentration that is added incrementally to a sample solution, the analyte, to determine the concentration of a specific substance within that sample. The titrant is dispensed from a burette, and the volume required to reach a detectable endpoint, such as a color change or a change in potential, is carefully measured. The concentration of the titrant is often standardized against a primary standard material to guarantee its accuracy before use in an analysis.
