Transition polarization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012235
The orientation of the electric dipole transition moment with respect to the molecular framework. This property dictates the direction in which a molecule preferentially absorbs or emits light. Measuring transition polarization can provide information about the symmetry of the electronic states involved in a spectroscopic transition and the orientation of chromophores within a larger structure.
