Volumetric internal standard
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012624
A compound added to a gas chromatography sample solution at a fixed, reproducible amount so that uncontrolled differences in injected volume can be corrected. Dividing the analyte peak area by the standard peak area cancels the volume error, because both are injected together. The standard must elute as a separate peak close to the analyte and must not occur in the sample.
