Wasting syndrome

A condition of progressive, involuntary weight loss, often accompanied by weakness, fever, and nutritional deficiencies. It involves the loss of both fat and muscle mass and is associated with chronic diseases, infections, or as a toxic effect of a chemical substance. This syndrome is distinct from simple starvation, as it involves metabolic changes that prevent the body from properly using nutrients.
