Dermatomyositis

An inflammatory disease that causes a characteristic skin rash and progressive muscle weakness, particularly affecting the muscles closest to the trunk. This condition is considered an autoimmune disorder, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues, including skin and muscle cells. In adults, dermatomyositis can be associated with an underlying malignancy, a condition known as a paraneoplastic syndrome.
