Ynamines

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012780

Organic compounds that feature a nitrogen atom directly attached to a carbon atom of a carbon-carbon triple bond, with the general structure R₂N−C≡CR′. They are the alkyne analogues of enamines, which have a nitrogen atom bonded to a double bond. The delocalization of the nitrogen's lone pair of electrons into the alkyne system makes the β-carbon nucleophilic and reactive towards electrophiles, a property exploited in organic synthesis.
