Counterflashing

A secondary layer of flashing installed over primary flashing to protect the top edge of the primary flashing from water intrusion. This component is typically embedded into a wall or chimney mortar joint and then bent down over the base flashing. It prevents water from running behind the base flashing, directing it onto the roof surface.
