Hardhead
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007024
A brittle, iron-rich intermediate product formed during the smelting of tin ores. This metallic mass consists mainly of an iron-tin alloy with impurities like arsenic and sulfur, and it settles at the bottom of the furnace due to its high density. Hardhead must be separated and re-treated to recover the entrained tin, a process that adds cost and complexity to the smelting operation.
