Pile
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004308
An early form of electric battery, also known as a voltaic pile, constructed from alternating layers of two dissimilar metals and electrolyte-soaked separators. This arrangement generates an electric current through electrochemical reactions between the metals and the electrolyte. The voltage produced by a single pile is the sum of the voltages from each individual cell.
