Prescaler
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004485
An electronic circuit that divides a high-frequency input signal by a fixed integer value, producing a lower-frequency output signal. This division allows subsequent counting or processing stages, which have lower frequency limits, to handle signals that would otherwise be too fast. Prescalers are commonly used in frequency counters, synthesizers, and radio receivers to extend their operating range into higher frequency bands.
