Redsear

A condition in steel where it becomes brittle and cracks when worked at red heat. This phenomenon is caused by the presence of impurities like sulfur, which form low-melting point iron sulfides at grain boundaries. Steel with high sulfur content is particularly susceptible to red shortness.
