Rheostat
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004841
A two-terminal variable resistor used to control the current in a circuit. By adjusting its resistance, it changes the amount of current flowing through a load, making it useful for controlling motor speed, generator field excitation, or the brightness of lights. A rheostat operates according to Ohm's law, where increasing the resistance decreases the current for a given voltage.
