Slaggability
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005339
The tendency of ash from fuel combustion or impurities in ores to form slag within a furnace or boiler. It describes the propensity for non-combustible materials to melt, agglomerate, and adhere to internal surfaces, creating deposits that can impede heat transfer and gas flow. Slaggability is assessed using indices based on the chemical composition of the ash, such as the ratio of basic to acidic oxides, and by measuring ash fusion temperatures.
