Sullage

The accumulation of dross, slag, or other impurities that float on the surface of molten metal in a crucible or furnace. This material consists of oxides, nitrides, and other non-metallic compounds formed during melting or from contaminants in the charge. It is typically skimmed off before casting to prevent inclusions in the final product.
