Abatement

A reduction, decrease, or suspension of something, such as a nuisance, a legacy in a will, or rent. In property law, it can refer to the termination or reduction of a nuisance. In probate, it describes the process of reducing testamentary gifts when the estate assets are insufficient to satisfy all bequests.
